If you've been keeping up with us, you'd know that Bailee and I are going into our last semester at Texas A&M University!! I honestly can’t believe it.

Because Bailee and I are scheduled to graduate a semester early, we took a senior-level nutrition course last year. Thus, we were surrounded by several seniors who were in their last semester of college. This served to be very beneficial because we got to get an inside look at the reality of how our peers handled their difficult coursework in real time. I truly believe God is so intentional in His timing because He knew we would need the help and guidance of several of these seniors.

Several of the seniors came to class stressed and anxious about Biochemistry II and Nutritional Biochemistry- scared that their inability to succeed in the courses would prevent them from graduating. Although I was taking my fair share of difficult courses myself, it was interesting to be able to sit back and observe them from an outside perspective.

What I learned is this: God is faithful, and a person’s worth is not defined by an external measurement of success. Allow me to elaborate. I was so happy to see so many of the seniors match to their dream internships and walk across the graduation stage this spring. Although this was undoubtedly a great encouragement to them, it was also a great encouragement to me. God knew I needed to see His faithfulness to them in order to strengthen my own faith. Nevertheless, I can confidently say that I would be proud of these seniors whether they got to walk the stage or not. No matter the outcome, I think true effort and hard work is always worth celebrating. I’m learning more and more that true beauty is in the journey. Although the destination (a diploma in my case) is a big desire of my heart, I know that walking across that stage in December won’t on its own increase my value in God’s kingdom. What actually matters is the fruit that I bear in my life (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control). The good news is that I can bear these fruit in any season or circumstance as long as I am connected to the Lord.

I love to post countdowns on my Instagram story. It gives me something to look forward to and work towards. I don't think this is a bad thing; however, I will admit that there is something in the process of reaching your goals that is sacred.

Here is an Instagram post I came across that describes what I mean:

***

I recently captioned an Instagram post I made on move out day, “See you in the fall for semester seven.” Later that week I was listening to Sadie Robertson Huff’s podcast, and she just happened to reference the number 7 and how it is known as “the number of completion” in the Bible. This stems from the fact that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. My goal is to follow after His example this semester and actually allow myself to rest in His promises + trust the Holy Spirit to lead me in my studies. I hope you’ll join me in this endeavor wherever you are in life.

P.S.
