Hello friends!

If you are reading this, I really do consider you my friend. As I'm sure you know, it is the first of the year. Happy 2025!

New Years Resolutions

You might find this surprising, but typically, I don't make set-in-stone New Year's resolutions. The only one I can really think of that I have set consistently is to read the Bible more. That one may replace the "workout more" resolution that most people make. Since I already enjoy working out, I don't really have a desire to work out "more"; however, now that I am writing this, I realize I could do a bit more strength training, as I'm prone to joint issues. For example, my shoulder used to slip out of place when I was little, and I have a rib that slips out of place. Coming from a background with disordered eating and exercise, I am always hesitant to share my personal fitness/health goals because I never want to trigger someone else who may be on the edge of falling back into disordered eating patterns. I also, however, don't want to neglect my calling to help other people achieve their health-related goals. So, if you need the reminder today here it is: EVERYONE is different. Here's an example. I recently advised my dad to download a step counter app. I, on the other hand, recently deleted mine. My father is a grown man and less prone to disordered eating habits while I am a young girl with anxiety. Nutrition and health is not one-size-fits-all. Bailee and I are twins, have almost the same genetic information, grew up under the same conditions, went to the same college, majored in the same thing, lived in the same dorm, etc., etc., and even we have different goals when it comes to the New Year.

Grad School

I just turned in my application to graduate school a couple days ago. I started off my personal statement with the thought that "nutrition chose me". I've said this before, but if it weren't for my sister, I probably would not have majored in nutrition. However, I'm so glad I did because the cards have fallen in just the right way for a beautiful story to unfold. It's almost movie-like the way it has all played out. It's a prime example of how God was looking out for me before the creation of the world and how much He loves to bless His children. Here's just a glimpse of what He's done with the hardest part of my life thus far- my sister's struggle with disordered eating.

  • Noticed that the FFA manual mentions the goal of helping it's members be healthy

  • Created Agriscience Fair projects researching the nutritional knowledge of FFA members- won a state and National FFA Contest (two national championships in one week)

  • Won the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo Agriscience Fair (by a point, and this entire experience was super holy. That was the first trip where I truly felt God's peace with me. I didn't stress as much over my presentation. I simply practiced daily and reviewed my presentation the day of. I also was presenting the poster by myself for the first time. I ended up winning $10,000.)

  • Got a full-ride scholarship, largely because of my passion for nutrition.

  • Was named the state star green-hand in agriscience (eighth grade) and the Star American in Agriscience (college) for my research projects

  • Competed in the Job interview contest in high school, interviewing for the position of nutritionist

  • Obtained this same job as my first big girl postgrad job.

There are so many stories and details I could share, but moral of the story- while I was crying on my bed in junior high, listening to my mom trying to help my sister and praying that my sister would listen and/or simply tell my mom what was wrong, God had a plan. I couldn't see a way out, but God had so much He wanted to teach me through the journey and a million blessings on the other side.

I hope you enjoyed this. Go listen to the podcast episode for more details! The struggles behind these moments of success were extremely painful, but they say the topics that cause your soul to ache the most turn into beautiful opportunities to minister to other people facing the same struggles. God Bless You all, and Happy New Year! Let's thrive in 2025 :)

Love, Breanna Chavez
