God Couldn't Do It Again If He Tried To

Inspired by Ella Langley's song "Never Met Anyone Like You"

If you haven’t listened to Ella’s new song, I highly recommend. It’s so catchy and clever. However, as I was listening, I couldn’t help but be intrigued by the lyrics, “God couldn’t do it again if He tried to.” Yikes, sounds like, “Not even God himself could sink this ship." And well, we know what happened to the Titanic. The beginning of the song is a love song, so that comment was a compliment, but the end of the song turns dark after the guy cheats, so that same comment is an insult before the song is over.

Today, we’ll stick to the love song side of things and talk about how God isn’t a one-hit wonder kind of God. No, He takes us from glory to glory to glory. Let me share a few examples.

For one, Bailee and I are walking, talking examples of how God can do whatever He wants. I truly believe that the Lord put a special blessing on our lives. I mean, who would’ve thought that we’d grow up to be Valedictorian and Salutatorian, pursue the same career, have the same full-time job, yet still be so incredibly different from each other? The odds are very slim, BUT GOD.

Our livelihood is a pretty broad example of God’s power, so in case you’re still not convinced, let me get into some specifics. (click underlined for news stories)

From 8th grade to senior year of high school, FFA was our main extracurricular (besides cheer of course). Each year, we went into the Quiz, Agriscience Fair, Chapter Conducting, and Forage contest with the same mindset- WIN STATE. We got a taste of victory in the 8th grade when Bailee and I placed first and second individually in the state Quiz contest and also won state as a team.

Naturally, we wanted to continue the trend. We endured a long, hard year of studying our freshman year of high school, only to tie for first place individually, but lose state as a team by TWO points. This mattered so much to us because the state-winning high school team gets to go to Nationals and can no longer compete in the Quiz contest anymore. We were so desperate to be done with the contest, as another year of studying literally seemed like torture. We were honestly upset with God, and we viewed the loss as a personal attack on our ego and our faith.

Flash forward to the following year. We finally won the state Quiz contest! Although we were absolutely ecstatic to win, we had no idea that the Lord had even more in store for us. That summer, we also ended up winning the state Agriscience Fair contest. Thus, we got to compete at the National FFA convention in not one, but TWO contests the following October.

But it gets even crazier. We started off the week of the National FFA Convention by competing in the Quiz contest. Bailee and I were the most anxious we had ever been, but we were absolutely blown away to learn that we placed first and second individually AND won Nationals as a team. In our minds, we had peaked. BUT GOD.

Fast forward to the end of the week, and Bailee and I find ourselves on the National FFA Convention stage, hearing our names being called as National FFA Agriscience Fair champions in front of thousands. We could not believe we won two National FFA Championships in one week. Talk about insane. News Story

But God wasn’t done yet. Remember how I said Bailee and I wanted to win state in Chapter Conducting and Forage, too? You probably forgot, but God didn’t. We came close to winning these two contests every year. Heck, during our sophomore year of high school, Bailee and I placed first and second individually in the state Forage contest, only to place second as a team, just like we did in Quiz our freshman year. God had done it again, but in a bad way.

What we received as a failure, God viewed as the perfect stage to blow us away one last time during our senior year when we won state in Chapter Conducting and Forage. It is unheard of to win these two contests in the same year. God had already blessed us tremendously, but He loves giving good gifts to His children, so I believe He simply couldn’t help but show us His faithfulness one last time before we graduated high school.

The plaques from these contests may be piled up under my bed, but the faith that the FFA gave me goes with me everywhere. God knew I would need this testimony to look back on in my twenties as I navigate all the things- dating, school, friendships, etc.

I hate to disagree with you, Ella, but my God can and will do it again, whenever He sees fit.

Love,

Breanna Chavez
